Visiting Associate Professor of Religious Studies S. Brent Plate recently presented invited lectures based on his forthcoming book, A History of Religion in 5 1/2 Objects.
The first was given as the plenary address for the Mid-Atlantic regional meeting of the American Academy of Religion on March 14-15 in Baltimore. Plate presented the Robert Mason lecture March 18 at Georgetown University.
In his multimedia presentations, Plate discussed the role of the senses in religious experience and the ways people engage objects as part of ritual, symbolic and mythic activities.
