Visiting Associate Professor of Religious Studies Brent Plate recently made presentations at Ithaca College and at the University of Toronto during the American Academy of Religion (AAR) Eastern International Regional Meeting.
In a public presentation at Ithaca College, Plate’s discussion focused on the topic of his forthcoming book, A History of Religion in 5 1/2 Objects. He also presented in classes on Western religions and religion and film.
At the AAR meeting, Plate was invited to discuss his ongoing work as the managing editor of the journal Material Religion, as well as his work with several other journals. His talk, “How to Get Published in Journals,” was aimed at graduate students and junior faculty interested in publishing articles. Plate gave suggestions for making strong submissions, insights on how the review process works, and what to do with “revise and resubmit” decisions.
Plate also organized and presided over a session on “Mediation and Materiality in Africa” during the AAR conference. The session included talks by anthropologists from Colgate, Skidmore and the Royal Ontario Museum.
