Assistant Professor of Anthropology Mariam Durrani presented “The Paradox of #MeToo: When Hashtags Aren’t Enough” at a conference at William Patterson University on Oct. 18.
Titled “When We Speak: Sex, Power, and the #MeToo Movement,” the conference, which was part of the college’s Context series, included sessions on the history of the #MeToo era and what the future might hold for the movement.
Discussions focused on how power affects gender roles and sexual behavior in public and private spaces, and who has power, who does not, and how power is leveraged.
