Alan Cafruny

Alan Cafruny, the Henry Platt Bristol Chair of International Affairs and Professor of Government, gave an invited lecture at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard on Feb. 15. The lecture, based on Cafruny’s recently published book Europe and Global Capitalism: Origins, Development, Crisis, focused on the multiple, mutually reinforcing crises of the European Union (EU).

Cafruny discussed such topics as the increasing divergence among member-state economies partly as a result of the economic and monetary union, the emergence of the EU and Europe as epicenter of global neoliberalism, and the rise of German productive capital and the German state to a position of dominance.
