Visiting Professor of Art History Scott MacDonald was interviewed, along with director Godfrey Reggio, in a seven-minute video about The Qatsi Trilogy. The video, The Qatsi Trilogy: Life as a Film, launched on FilmStruck, a subscription-based on-demand film service, on Jan. 6.
The Qatsi Trilogy, distributed by The Criterion Collection, is a series of three films produced by Godfrey Reggio and scored by Philip Glass – Koyaanisqatsi: Life Out of Balance (1982), Powaqqatsi: Life in Transformation (1988) and Naqoyqatsi: Life as War (2002).
Criterion describes the films as “immersive sensory experiences that meditate on the havoc humankind’s obsession with technological advancement has wreaked on our world.” In the films, Reggio takes viewers “on a journey from the ancient to the contemporary, from nature to industry and explores life out of balance, in transformation, and as war, all the while keeping our eyes wide with wonder.”
