 Craig Latrell

Professor of Theatre Craig Latrell presented a paper at the International Convention of Asia Scholars in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The conference, an initiative of the International Institute for Asian Studies, took place July 20 to 23. Some 60 countries were represented by more than 1,200 delegates attending the conference.

Latrell was part of a panel on Global Affect/Asian Spaces that investigated the production of affect in spaces that are simultaneously both local and global, and which might generate a global imaginary and global sense of belonging.

His paper, “Goin’ to the Chapel: the production of affect in the Bali wedding chapel,” focused on the production of affect in destination wedding chapels in Bali, Indonesia, through such elements as siting, architecture, and the incorporation of Balinese design and decoration.
