Last year, Owen and colleague Elizabeth Jensen, also a Hamilton College economics professor, conducted a survey of about 2,000 students from 34 liberal arts colleges.
The survey focused on factors that encourage or discourage women from continuing studies in economics.
"We wanted to know what we as teachers can do about it. The focus of our study was what happened in the class-room." Owen said.
