Shelley Haley, the Edward North Chair of Greek and Greek Literature and Professor of Classics and Africana Studies, recently presented the seventh annual Adam Parry and Anne Amory Parry Lecture at Yale University. The virtual talk was titled “Surely in many ways I hold different views from others’: racialized gender in ancient Hellenic and Roman societies.”
According to the Yale Department of Classics webpage, Adam and Anne Parry were Yale professors who died in a 1971 motorcycle accident. The lecture series was created in the spirit of their “wide-ranging, elegantly written, and exciting scholarship” and is “designed to bring to Yale speakers whose work embodies the traditions to which the Parrys belonged.”
