This Sunday, August 23, commemorates Father Sandy Webb’s calling as the sixth rector of Church of the Holy Communion in Memphis that was announced on May 24. Along with honoring Father Webb, the church will also celebrate Rally Day, the start of the church year in ministry and education. Father Webb will speak at 9:15a.m. on his vision for the parish, themed “Eyes Upward, Lives Outward”.
Father Webb has served at the church since 2013 and has made significant strides towards improving community outreach as well as dedicating time to newcomer and young adult ministries. Aside from his work as a priest, Father Webb is a well established teacher and educator at Holy Communion. With a background in theological studies, he has given lectures on a wide variety of subjects that range from biblical studies to church history. He is also a permanent trustee of St. Mary’s Episcopal School and has worked to strengthen the relationship between St. Mary's and Holy Communion.
Outside of the church, Father Webb has served as chaplain to the Roanoke City Fire-EMS Department and as a representative on the Institutional Review Board at Carilion Clinic and Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He has consistently been a distinguished presence in the community as well as in the church. At Hamilton, Father Webb was an economics and government major. He was involved in student government and religious groups on campus.
