Charter Trustee Richard Bernstein '80, chief investment strategist at Merrill Lynch, was among five financial experts featured in the 12th annual USA Today investment roundtable. In the article "Fasten your seatbelts, experts warn," the panelists provide advice for investors in 2008 (12/17/07). Bernstein warned in the article "Our story for '08 is, market volatility will continue to go up as we see more issues, not just in the U.S. but around the world, related to the tightening of the credit markets. 

"The U.S. subprime mess is a symptom of a much bigger problem. The underlying problem is that we had a credit bubble, and credit conditions are now tightening. The first symptom is the tightening of U.S. subprime which is close to the epicenter. But what we think is going on is a tightening of the global credit markets," he said.

Bernstein was one of three Hamilton College alumni who shared their expertise in the area of finance when they visited international finance economics classes in March. The three were invited by James L. Ferguson Professor of Economics Erol Balkan. Bernstein was joined by Charter Trustee Jaime Yordan '71, advisory director at CDK Group, LLC, and Bob Fryklund '80, vice president for industry relations for IHS
