The Hamilton Jazz Archive and its director, Monk Rowe, were listed in the acknowledgments section of the new book by author Ashley Kahn, A Love Supreme/The Story of John Coltrane's Signature Album (Viking/Penguin Press).
Rowe is also playing a role in a project at the Fort Stanwix Elementary School in Rome.
They received an Arts Infusion Grant from the Central NY Community Arts Council to create curriculum based activities on World War II. As director of the jazz archive, he is meeting with the classes and teaching them about the role of music during the war years. Resources from the Archive collection will include 78rpm recordings and V discs as well as clips from interviews Rowe conducted with musicians who served in WW II.
