Carl A. Rubino, the Winslow Professor of Classics, recently published an article titled “Long Ago, But Not So Far Away: Another Look at Star Wars and the Ancient World.”
The article, which appears in The Classical Outlook, draws on a series of talks he has given over the last few years at venues such as Mohawk Valley Community College, the annual meetings of the Southwest/Texas Popular Culture and American Culture Association and the Classical Association of the Atlantic States, the annual institute of the Classical Association of the Empire State, and The Other Side, a community center in Utica.
Rubino has also appeared on the History Channel in a Lucasfilm documentary, “Star Wars: The Legacy Revealed,” where he discussed the films’ roots in classical mythology.
