Assistant Professor of Religious Studies Seth Schermerhorn recently published an article in Journal of the Southwest. In “O’odham Songscapes: Journeys to Magdalena Remembered in Song,” he examines O’odham songs mapping indigenous pilgrimage routes from the Tohono O’odham Nation in southern Arizona to Magdalena in Sonora, Mexico.

Journal of the Southwest is a refereed journal published quarterly by the Southwest Center at the University of Arizona. According to its website, the journal is dedicated to an integrated regional study of the Greater Southwest (including northern Mexico). It publishes broadly across disciplines that include intellectual and social history, anthropology, architecture, literary studies, folklore, historiography, politics, borderlands studies and regional natural history.
