Assistant Professor of Religious Studies Seth Schermerhorn recently published an article in the international, peer-reviewed journal Material Religion: The Journal of Objects, Art and Belief. “Walkers and their Staffs: O’odham Walking Sticks by Way of Calendar Sticks and Scraping Sticks” examines O’odham staffs as powerful entities that also encode historical and geographical knowledge.
Material Religion explores how religion happens in material culture, bridging the world of scholarship and museum practice, supporting all those seeking, at whatever level, to understand and explain the relationships between objects, art and belief.
