Visiting Instructor of English Jodi Schorb addressed the Society of Early Americanists (SEA) at its 4th Biennial Conference, held March 30-April 2 in Old Town Alexandria, Va.

Schorb was invited guest on the panel, "The Future of Women and Early American Studies." Her talk, "Tears for Queers:  Sentiment and Sexuality Beyond the SEA," addressed the challenges of researching same-sex female desire in the literatures of early America, and spoke to the usefulness of using recent work on theories of affect, sentiment and sensibility to inform early American sexuality studies. Other
speakers on panel included Annette Kolodny, Ivy Schweitzer and Carla Mulford.

Schorb also participated in a roundtable, Early Native Literacies, at the conference.  On this panel, she spoke about her contribution to a new anthology collection titled Reading Early Native Literacies (forthcoming U Mass Press), addressing the specific editorial choices and challenges involved when editing early Native American life writing.  A portion of this research was supported by an Emerson grant with Amanda Bennett '06 last summer.
