The Hamilton College Senior Art Show, a final presentation of the work of 18 graduating fine arts majors, will open in the Emerson Gallery on Friday, April 22. The exhibition includes paintings, sculpture, photography, video, and ceramics. The show will close on Sunday, May 22. A reception will be held on Friday, April 22, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the gallery. A graduation reception will also be held on Saturday, May 21, from 12 to 2 p.m. The exhibition and the receptions are free and open to the public.
Students whose works will be included in the exhibit include Kaitlin Bear, Paige Byron, Bobby Cpin, Elizabeth Dyke, Ashley Ferrell, Sarah Fritchey, Christopher Marcal, Carrie Turvey, Alexis Mann, Robert Bessette, Sean Egan, Maria Jose Perez, Pembroke Harwood, Craig Moores, Kelly Stryker, Maura Boyle, Mark Castro, and George Earle. Students typically focus their work around a single theme or concept.
As a result of a project that began in a women's studies course on poverty, senior Alexis Mann spent two years documenting a local Utica family, a single mother and her three children, in black and white photography. She asked two of the children to record their daily experiences, and their images appear with her photos.
Robert Bessette is presenting a video memoir titled "what do we remember and why?" He uses visits to a summer cabin, a family retreat, to examine threads that connect his and his father's childhood experiences.
The Emerson Gallery is located on the Hamilton College campus in the Christian A. Johnson Hall, directly behind the Chapel.
