The Hamilton College Senior Art Show, a final presentation of the work of 18 graduating fine arts majors, will remain on exhibit in the Emerson Gallery through Sunday, May 25. The exhibition includes paintings, sculpture, photography, video, and mixed media works. It is free and open to the public.
Hamilton art students typically focus their work around a single theme or concept. One such theme developed out of a student's concentration in computer science and photography coupled with a fascination with issues related to privacy in an era of digital technology. Senior Peter Kimball has documented surveillance cameras on film and has digitized the images, re-colored them and printed them as large-scale images.
Jessie Turner has focused on the politics of poverty along the U.S./Mexican border. Her experiences as a volunteer at a Juarez, Mexico, women's shelter last summer influenced her theme. Turner's work will be displayed outside of the Emerson Gallery along Martin's Way, a campus walkway. The presentation includes a large 16- by 8-foot billboard and a border fence with security cameras and video and is titled "There is no such thing as an illegal human being."
The Emerson Gallery is located on the Hamilton College campus in Clinton, New York, in the Christian Johnson Hall directly behind the chapel. Admission is free.
