Hamilton College marked the anniversary of Sept. 11 with a number of events throughout the day. The Chapel bell rang at 10:29 a.m. Members of the Hamilton community crowded onto the steps of the buildings surrounding the quad, and individuals stopped walking to bow their heads as the bells rang.  Others gathered in the candlelit Chapel for prayer and silent reflection.

Today in the Beinecke Village:

... The Sisters of Alpha Theta Chi distributed red, white and blue ribbons to remember the events of September 11.

... The Brothers of Tau Kappa Epsilon held a 9/11 Philanthropy Drive to benefit the Clinton Volunteer Fire Department and the Fire Department of New York. They raised $324.31 in donations.

... Rabbi Yaakov Rapoport, Hamilton's Jewish chaplain, distributed collection boxes to "Defy darkness with light." The instructions read: "put a coin in this charity box…begin each day with an act of kindness…When this box is full, give it to a poor person, local charity or anyone else in need and light up their day."

... The Class of 2003 sold "Spirit of September 12" t-shirts to "bring the community together on this significant occasion." The money raised will go to The September 11th Scholarship Fund at Hamilton College. The fund will provide scholarships primarily for direct descendants of Hamilton's lost alumni but also for descendants of any other victims of September 11.
