Winslow Professor of Chemistry George Shields and Visiting Assistant Professor of Chemistry Karl Kirschner visited the University of Colorado (CU) and the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), in Boulder, during the recent fall break. They brought Hamilton student researchers Meghan Dunn '06, Marco Allodi '08, and Greg Hartt '08  to visit with Veronica Vaida, professor and chair of the Department of Chemistry at CU, and Sasha Madronich, senior scientist in the Atmospheric Chemistry Division and section head of Theoretical Studies and Modeling at NCAR. The Hamilton researchers outlined their work in atmospheric chemistry to the Boulder community and the CU and NCAR research groups and developed a plan for short- and long-term collaboration. This collaboration will involve using Hamilton's computational work on molecular clusters to improve the Box Models that are used to simulate chemical reactions in the atmosphere.
