George Shields, professor and chair of chemistry, has been awarded a two-year grant from the New York State Department of Health Breast Cancer Research and Education Program for the "Design of Molecules that Inhibit Human Breast Cancer."
The $100,000 grant will fund research by Shields and Steven Feldgus, Dreyfus Postdoctoral Fellow, "to design, synthesize and test the ability of altered peptides that will be biologically active against breast cancer."
The molecules will be made and tested by collaborator Thomas Anderson at Albany Medical College.
