George Shields, the Winslow Professor of Chemistry, presented a lecture at the 38th Middle Atlantic Regional Meeting of the American Chemical Society on June 5, in Hershey, PA. His talk, "Computational Design of a Small Peptide that Inhibits Breast Cancer: An overview of computational chemistry research at Hamilton College," encompassed the work that he and Visiting Assistant Professor of Chemistry Karl Kirschner have completed with their students over the past few years.
The seminar focused in particular on the project led by Katrina Lexa '05, and Amanda Salisburg '08. He also discussed the work of Sarah Taylor '03, Abby Markeson '04, Frank Pickard '05, Becky Shepherd '06, Amber Gillis '06, Valery Danilack '06, Meghan Dunn '06, Karilyn Larkin '06, Sarah Felder '07, Cecilia Disney '07, James McConnell '07, Marco Allodi '08, Kristin Alongi '08, Greg Hartt '08, Becky Mackenzie '08, Ngoda Manongi '08, Jovan Livada '08, Katherine Alser '09, Sharfi Farhana '09, Alexa Ashworth '09, Deacon Lile '09, and Alexa Schwarzman '09.
Shields gave the same basic lecture at the 46th Sanibel Symposium on Atomic, Molecular, Biophysical, and Condensed Matter Theory in February and for the biochemistry and chemistry departments at Florida State in March.
