Irene Wangechi Thuo,  is conducting research this summer with Professor Steven Festin at Hamilton College.  The summer research will be in the fields of biochemistry and cancer biology.

Thou, under Festin's advisement, will be studying the cellular pathways associated with the steroid hormone estrogen and its relation to cancer, specifically breast cancer. Thou will be learning about the transfer of artificial DNA into mammalian tissue culture cells, as well as working to discover the unknown mechanism of action of a hormone associated with pregnancy and how it controls the signaling of estrogen cells. According to Professor Festin, "the purpose of this study is to further enhance out ability engineer cells in the study of transduction pathways."

Thou, a graduate of United World College Atlantic, is a rising sophomore at Hamilton.
