William J. Hoyer,  professor and director of graduate training in experimental psychology at Syracuse University, will give a lecture titled "Aging, Skill Learning and Cognitive Expertise" on Wednesday, Oct. 29, at 4:10 p.m., in the Hamilton College Science Auditorium.

Dr. Hoyer's research identifies and describes the learning mechanisms that enable middle-aged and older adults to continue to  perform effectively in skilled tasks, even though memory, speed of information processing, and other basic cognitive processes are declining with advancing age. The lecture is sponsored by The John Rybash Memorial Lecture Fund, established in memory of John Rybash, a professor of psychology at Hamilton from 1991-1999, by his family, friends, colleagues and former students.
