 Nancy Sorkin Rabinowitz

Professor of Comparative Literature and Creative Writing Emerita Nancy Sorkin Rabinowitz is the primary investigator on a new publication titled Queering the Past(s), available on the Classical Association website.

For two years, Rabinowitz has worked with an international group of teachers and scholars who saw an opportunity to use classics to aid LGBTQ+ youth who experience bullying and intimidation in schools and at home. The team has designed a resource of e-books, lessons, and activities for use in teaching sexuality and human relations.

With funding from the Ancient Worlds, Modern Communities program of the Society for Classical Studies, and the major projects program of the Classical Association UK, they have developed two chapters — “Sapphos: Lesbian or a lesbian” and “Elagabalus: The Genderqueer Ruler of Rome.”

Help us provide an accessible education, offer innovative resources and programs, and foster intellectual exploration.
