Katherine H. Terrell, the Margaret Bundy Scott Professor of the Humanities in Literature and Creative Writing, presented a paper at the International Conference of Medieval and Renaissance Scottish Language, Literature, and Culture, held at Bristol University (England) on July 5 to 9.
Terrell's paper, titled “The Tenth Worthy: Robert the Bruce and the Recasting of History in Medieval Scotland,” examined a late-medieval Scottish poem that adds Robert Bruce to the traditional catalogue of the nine worthiest historical figures. Discussing the poem within its manuscript context, Terrell discussed the historical scheme implied by the Scottish poet’s revision.
