On Monday, Hamilton College joined 10 other academic institutions in the New England Small College Athletic Conference in taking a strong stand against abusive drinking on their campuses. A joint statement issued by the conference said the colleges will encourage students to sponsor social programs that do not involve alcohol.
It's commendable that colleges, including Hamilton, have the tightened policies on alcohol use. But we must not place the onus of social responsibility entirely on college officials.
