The Union College women's basketball team(4-9) held on to defeat Hamilton (3-7, 3-5 UCAA), 74-70, this afternoon atScott Field House.

The Dutchwomen led by five points, 38-33, at halftime, but the Continentalscame back in the second half to take a six-point lead, powered behind seniorforward Ashley Merriman's 16 points and five rebounds. FiveContinentals were in double figures, and freshman Abby McDermott grabbed12 rebounds, but Union was too strong down the stretch as Leah Oliveiriand Beth Perry each scored 21 points. Union's Kathleen Furlongchipped in 18 points, nailing down the victory with four free throws in thefinal minute.

Hamilton returns to action at home on Tuesday, Jan. 27, against St.Lawrence.
