The Arthur Levitt Public Affairs Center will host a series during the 2007/2008 academic year titled "The Age of Information." The first presenter in this series, University of Pennsylvania Annenberg School of Communication professor Barbie Zelizer, will present "When Reporting War Is More Imagined Than Real," on Thursday, Aug. 30, at 7 p.m. in the Kennedy Auditorium in the Science Center. Zelizer says her goal is "to discuss the boundaries and limitations of reporting war in general and … to segue into a discussion of how images exacerbate those limitations."

A former journalist, Zelizer's work focuses on the cultural dimensions of journalism. She is the holder of the Raymond Williams Chair of Communication at Annenberg and is the co-editor and founder of the journal Journalism: Theory, Practice, and Criticism (Sage). Her essays on the media have appeared in The Nation, Newshour with Jim Lehrer, Newsday, and other publications. Zelizer earned her Ph.D. at the University of Pennsylvania.
