Soggy, the word that best described last year's Febfest, was not applicable to Febfest 2007. In a case of feast or famine, with more than three feet of snow over a five-day period, the campus had too much snow to allow for several Febfest events, and classes were cancelled for a day and a half.

"Oh, the irony!" exclaimed Andrew Jillings, director of outdoor leadership. "Cancelling a cross-country ski race and a sledding race because of too much snow will not go unnoticed for a long time around here.

"However, our equipment room experienced a run on plastic shovels, as it seems everyone wanted their own quinzhee, a shelter made by hollowing out a large pile of snow. We had two in the back yard of the Glen House, there was another outside the Farm House, and there were more elsewhere on campus.

"This past weekend I took a group of students on an overnight camping trip to the Tug Hill Plateau, where we snowshoed for a few miles, built a quinzhee and a kitchen, stayed overnight and hiked out in the morning."

It has been more than two decades since the College has cancelled a day of classes. Snow totals for this year, while not above the norm, have topped 100 inches, and more is forecasted. Don't put those sleds and skis away yet!
