Hamilton’s Voices of Color Lecture Series (VCLS) will host Marc Lamont Hill, academic, advocate, and television personality, on Friday, April 13, at 5 p.m., in the Chapel. He will discuss intergenerational activism and its effects on communities and social change. This lecture is free and open to the public.
Hill has contributed to numerous social projects over the past two decades. In 2001, he initiated a literacy program that used hip-hop culture to develop reading skills and classroom involvement in high schools. Likewise, Hill teaches and organizes adult literacy courses for high school dropouts in Camden and Philadelphia. He is a founding board member of My5th, a non-profit organization that educates youth about legal responsibilities and rights.
Bringing his social work to the screen, Hill has also hosted shows and media organizations such as “Our World with Black Enterprise” and BET News. He has contributed to other shows such as “VH1 Live!” and has served as a CNN political commentator. Hill has received awards from the National Association of Black Journalists, the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, and GLAAD.
Hill is currently the Steve Charles Professor of Media, Cities, and Solutions at Temple University. He has authored or co-authored four books, including Media, Learning, and Sites of Possibility and The Classroom and The Cell: Conversations on Black Life in America.
