Zhuoyi Wang.
Associate Professor of East Asian Languages and Literatures Zhuoyi Wang was invited to give an in-person public talk, titled “From Mulan (1998) to Mulan (2020): Orientalist Imagination, Feminist Intervention, and a Compromised Progress,” at Bucknell University during Fall Break.

The talk was based on his scholarly article on Disney’s 1998 animation film Mulan and the Chinese film Mulan Joins the Army (1939), as well as his in-depth review of Disney’s 2020 live-action remake of Mulan.

While visiting Bucknell, Wang also gave a guest lecture on Ang Lee’s film Wedding Banquet (1993) in Professor Xi Tian’s fourth-year Chinese class. In September, Wang also gave an invited online public talk on Mulan at the University of Utah.
