A positive review of Maoist Laughter, a recently published book by Associate Professor of East Asian Languages Zhuoyi Wang, was published this month in China Review International. The book was co-edited with Ping Zhu of the University of Oklahoma and Jason McGrath of the University of Minnesota.
The review was written by Richard King, emeritus professor in the Department of Pacific and Asian Studies at University of Victoria. King writes that Maoist Laughter "is valuable for its exploration of the way that China’s humorists attempted to adapt their different media to generate laughter appropriate to the aspirations of the People’s Republic [of China]."
Maoist Laughter is also highly recommended in Choice, May 2020 Vol. 57 No. 9. The review preview is linked here.
