On March 14, students in the Program in Washington met with Paddy McGuire ’81, deputy director of the Federal Voting Assistance Program.  FVAP acts on behalf of the Secretary of Defense to help administer the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act of 1986.

McGuire briefed students about the challenges of working with 7,800 election units to facilitate voting by millions of military, military families, and citizens residing outside of the United States.  He also described his own journey in politics and administration, which has taken him from the Hamilton Program in Washington in 1979 to Alaska to Oregon and back to Washington.
