Jesse Weiner.

Associate Professor of Classics Jesse Weiner recently completed a four-week residency at the National Humanities Center (NHC) in Durham, N.C., where he worked on two intersectional projects joining classics with science fiction.

Weiner said the residency provided him with an office, library support, and living accommodations in, what he called, “a vibrant interdisciplinary community of scholars from around the country.”

While at the NHC, he also finished a review of two recent books on classical reception in Latin America – one on Greek and Roman myth in the film Ex Machina, and the other on the Medea myth in N.K. Jemisin’s Broken Earth trilogy. The review is available online ahead of its inclusion in an upcoming print volume.
