Hamilton College welcomed the 467 members of its class of 2007 on Tuesday, Aug. 26, as new student orientation began. Convocation will take place on Sunday, Aug. 31, at 4 p.m., with President Joan Hinde Stewart presiding over the ceremony that officially opens the 192nd year of Hamilton College.  Her talk is titled  "Reason and Writing." Classes for all students begin on Monday, Sept. 1.

Orientation activities will include a welcome to students and their parents by President Stewart, followed by a reception with deans, faculty and administrators. On  Wednesday, Aug. 27,  a lecture, "Making the Most of Your Hamilton Experience," will feature Richard Light, professor in the Graduate School of Education and John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, and author of Making the Most of College.  New students will also meet with their faculty advisors and can participate in programs on preventing sexual assault and understanding diversity.

In an annual Hamilton College tradition, members of the class of 2007 will visit Kirkland Cottage on Friday, Aug. 29, to sign the historic College Register. Other orientation week activities include a Midnight Breakfast Pajama Party, a session on Hamilton traditions, movies, and basketball and kickball intramural tournaments.
