Associate Professor of Africana Studies Nigel Westmaas was a guest on WRFG Radio Atlanta on Dec. 9 as a discussant on developments and challenges in the Caribbean in 2017.
Westmaas addressed several issues, including the ongoing Puerto Rican crisis in the aftermath of hurricane Maria; the plight of Haitian refugees and immigrants in the US after new policies on Temporary Protective Status (TPS) by the Trump administration; the likely socio-economic-political impact of the Exxon-Mobil’s huge discovery of oil off the Guyana coast on the country and the region; and new developments in Caribbean intra-regional travel and trade.
