
Associate Professor of Africana Studies Nigel Westmaas spoke on Radio Atlanta WRFG on the significance of the August 1st Emancipation Day which is celebrated in the Anglophone Caribbean.
On August 1, 1838 chattel slavery ended in the Caribbean plantation colonies under British control. Westmaas addressed the historical significance of August 1 and its continued relevance for discussion and action in the present, inclusive of the call for reparations for the descendantsof former slaves
