The final round of the Hamilton College public speaking competition took place March 6 in the Hamilton College Chapel. The winners of The Clark Prize, The McKinney Prize and The Warren Wright Prize in public speaking have been announced, and will be recognized at the Class and Charter Day ceremony on May 7.

Thu Nguyen '04 is the recipient of The Clark Prize in Public Speaking. The Clark Prize was established by Aaron Clark in the middle of the l9th century and was increased by Henry A. Clark of the Class of l838. It is awarded each year to a senior who is judged to be the best speaker in the annual Clark Oratorical Contest. The competition included both an essay and a speech that focused on the ideas of Consumer Advocate Ralph Nader.
Thu Nguyen '04, Jonathan Rick '05, Tim Gigl '06 and Mike Mortimer '07 were recipients of The McKinney Prize. The McKinney Speaking Prizes, established by Charles McKinney, are awarded to four students, one in each class, who has been determined the best speakers in competition. Contestants were required to give 5-8 minute persuasive speech.

Priyanka Khanna '04 is the recipient of The Warren Wright Prize. The Warren E. Wright Prize in Public Speaking, established by Robert S. Ludwig, Class of 1972, in honor of Warren E. Wright, the Upson Professor of Rhetoric and Oratory, is awarded to that student who is determined to be the best speaker in the annual Wright Prize competition. Each contestant presented a 6-8 minute informative speech. The speaker was then asked no more than two questions, and had up to two minutes to respond to each question.
