Maurice Isserman

Maurice Isserman, the Publius Virgilius Rogers Professor of American History, was the first speaker in the Vermont Ski and Snowboard Museum’s new Writers on The Red Bench series.

In an illustrated talk, Isserman discussed his book, The Winter Army: The World War II Odyssey of the 10th Mountain Division, America’s Elite Alpine Warriors, published last fall by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. Among the topics covered were the 10th Mountain Division’s creation, its ties to Vermont, training, service on the Italian front, and post-war legacy.

The virtual event was facilitated by military historian Brian Lindner, a 47-year member of Vermont’s Mt. Mansfield Ski Patrol.
