Associate Professor of Chinese De Bao Xu is organizing the bi-yearly TCLT3 (the Third International Conference and Workshops on Technology and Chinese Language Teaching in the 21st Century) co-sponsored by Hamilton College and Columbia University, to be held at Columbia on May 28-30, 2004. TCLT3 was sponsored by the President's Office and the Dean's Office at Hamilton. The web site of TCLT3 is:

TCLT, an "international conference on Technology and Chinese Language Teaching in the 21st Century, (has) demonstrated Hamilton's leadership in Chinese language acquisition", and has been a "differentiator of the College" since 2000 (Promoting Hamilton's National Models of Excellence (p21, Nov. 2000). As has been the case, TCLT has been well supported by the President's Office and the Dean's Office since its inception in 2000.

There are three similar bi-yearly held conferences on Technology and Chinese Language Teaching in the world. One is TCLT (3rd conference to be held in 2004) in the U.S. The other is ICICE (3rd conference to be held in Oct. 2003) in Taiwan. The third one is TCE (4th conference to be held in 2004) in China. TCLT has stand out among these three with its unique feature-a combination of conference and workshops with hand-on sessions to teach up-to-date new technology on Chinese language teaching, and has therefore attracted more and more participants.

TCLT1 was initiated and hosted by Hamilton College, June 8-11, 2000. TCLT2 was co-sponsored by Yale University and Hamilton College, June 7-9, 2002. Both of them were a success in terms of the well participation by professionals and its influence in the field of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language. More than 100 participants (representing more than 100 institutions both in the U.S. and overseas) have attended the conferences and workshops of TCLT1 and TCLT2.
