Chief-edited by De Bao Xu, associate professor of Chinese and James Huang, professor of linguistics at Harvard University, the second edition of Contemporary Linguistic Theory Series (12 volumes) is being published by China Social Sciences Publishing House in Beijing, 2004.
The second edition contains 12 volumes, which cover up-to-date theories and research in linguistics in the areas of phonology, syntax, semantics, sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, language acquisition study, computational linguistics, history of linguistics, classic romance linguistics, segmental phonology, phonology and syntax interface, and communication and cognition.
The first edition, containing eight volumes, was started in 1993 and published from 1997-2000. The second edition was begun in 2002 and will be completely published in 2006. Contemporary Linguistic Theory Series (1st edition) has been widely adopted as textbooks and major references in linguistics for both undergraduate and graduate programs in the universities in Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong, and China. The second edition will also be used as textbooks and research references in linguistics.
Contemporary Linguistic Theory Series has been rated as the best seller in linguistic books in China since 2000. China Social Sciences Publishing House is the most prestigious publisher in social sciences and humanities in China since 1949.
