An editorial published in the Utica Observer-Dispatch discussed the efforts of Young Han '06 and other Hamilton College students to register to vote in Oneida County. According to the editorial, the Oneida County Board of Elections' efforts to obstruct student voters "just wasn't worth it." "Let college students register, make them feel welcome and. . .[m]aybe some of them will actually put down roots," the editorial suggested.

Han attempted to register to vote in Oneida County on three occasions. The Board of Elections has instructed him to register to vote in his home state. The American Civil Liberties Union, The Brennan Center for Justice at NYU and the New York Public Interest Research Group have decried the county's policy.
