Currently on sabbatical leave in Asia, Professor of East Asian Languages and Literatures Zhuoyi Wang has delivered 16 invited talks since the summer of 2023. Institutions that have invited Wang to present academic talks include Duke University and New York University Shanghai, Middlebury College, the Chinese Language Teachers Association, seven Taiwanese universities (National Taiwan Normal University, National Central University, National Chengchi University, Taiwan National University of the Arts, Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages, Chung Yuan Christian University, and Taipei Medical University), the Research Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences in Taiwan, and Keystone Academy, a school in mainland China.

The topics of Wang’s talks cover a range of subjects, including recent A24 film and TV productions, Disney’s Mulan adaptations, representations of Taiwan in mainland Chinese movies, Ang Lee’s films, and the history of Taiwanese cinema. Additionally, Wang was an invited speaker at the 2023 Canada-China International Film Festival, as well as in two post-screening public discussions at Chinese movie theaters for the newly released films The Shadowless Tower and Only the River Flows.
