End-to-End Testing Updates
Milestone Highlight
August 2026 marked a major milestone in our transition to Workday Student: the launch of End-to-End (E2E) testing. Dedicated team members from across the country came together in Kirner-Johnson to test the Workday Student Information System (SIS) not as independent parts, but as a fully unified, system.
Week 1 by the Numbers
Our testing was rigorous, demanding, and incredibly successful. Here is where the tracker stood at the end of Week 1:
- 772 Test Scenarios Successfully Passed
- 14 Scenarios Failed (under active resolution)
- 36 Total Defects Logged and Tracked
"Finding problems now is the entire point of this process. A clean first week of E2E would simply mean we weren't testing hard enough. We would much rather find and fix these minor bugs in August than during our live go-live in Spring 2027."
What We Tested: Key Successes
Taking a mock applicant from Slate, admitting them, collecting their deposit, and routing them into Workday. Moving the honor code affirmation and financial responsibility agreement into a single, fully electronic onboarding checklist, entirely replacing traditional paper forms.
Registering the student for courses, importing financial aid packages from PowerFAIDS (ensuring accepted awards matched and unauthorized funds were blocked), and calculating their final bill.
Verified that advisor-issued registration clearances cleared holds instantly, allowing students to register from saved schedules.
Ran "negative testing" to prove the system's guardrails behave as intended. Workday successfully blocked ineligible students from registering, prevented duplicate applications, and enforced prerequisite rules.
We verified that billing fee calculations assess dynamically. In Workday, when a student adds or drops a class, their statement updates in real time on their custom dashboard.
We successfully designed and tested the logic for parent and guardian proxy accounts. Students will have the self-service capability to centrally manage their proxy contacts in Workday, granting restricted visibility (such as billing statements or grades) and maintaining full FERPA compliance.
What's Next?
End-to-End testing is an 11-week journey that will wrap up in late October 2026 with full lifecycle validation and formal sign-off.
Throughout the fall, we will continue testing start-of-term changes, grading, and graduation.
