The A. Waldron Stone Scholarship

The A. Waldron Stone Scholarship was established in 1985 by William D. Stone, Class of 1961, in memory of his father, A. Waldron Stone, Class of 1919.  It is awarded to juniors and seniors who are majoring in geology or English.


William Stone, a geologist and President of Sunnywood Exploration Corp., is the son of A. Waldron Stone, Class of 1919, and Elizabeth Stone. A. Waldron Stone was an advertising executive in New York City. William grew up in Garden City, New York, and enrolled at Hamilton in 1957. On the Hill, he was a member of the College Choir and Theta Delta Chi fraternity. He graduated in 1961 with an A.B. in geology. He earned his M.A. from the University of California, Riverside in 1964. William moved to Colorado to pursue a career in earth sciences, specializing in oil and gas exploration. He worked for Mobil Oil Corporation and Davis Oil Corporation before becoming president of Sunnywood Exploration Corp. in Denver.
