Event Description

Dr. Pankaj Jain explores how Hindu and Jain traditions understand the moral status of animals and the ethics of food through concepts such as the sacred cow and the principle of ahimsa (nonviolence). Drawing on classical texts, contemporary research, and documentary films, it examines why cows are revered as mothers in Hindu thought, why many Jains observe strict dietary practices, and what these centuries-old ethical frameworks reveal about our food choices today. No background in Indian religions is required; all are welcome.
