Spend the Spring 2027 semester exploring Global Blackness in the City with Program Director Nigel Westmaas, Professor of Africana Studies. Attend this information session to learn how the Hamilton in NYC program combines academic study, independent research, an internship, and experiential learning throughout New York City.

Students will examine the city’s pivotal role in shaping global Black identities through historical migrations, cultural exchange, activism, entrepreneurship, and contemporary questions of race and equity. Courses and experiences include:

College 395 — Global Blackness in the City: An interdisciplinary exploration of race, ethnicity, migration, culture, and socioeconomic inequality in New York City.

College 396 — Independent Study: Focused research on topics such as migration, identity, activism, cultural history, Black economic life, and community wealth.

College 397 — Internship: Professional experience with organizations engaged in community development, cultural preservation, advocacy, economic justice, or social justice.

College 398 — Experiential Blackness in the City: Site visits and community engagement that may include institutions such as the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture and the Weeksville Heritage Center.
