Manuscript Illumination Workshop

Virtual Hamilton
We’ve all been leading rather cloistered lives lately. Why not take it to the next level by participating in Hamilton College’s blended learning Manuscript Illumination Workshop. Participants in the two hour session will trace and paint their own initial capital letter in the style of a medieval illuminator. Each participant will receive (by mail or in person) a kit containing: letter template, bone folding tool, muller, slab, four dry pigments, gum arabic, paintbrushes, and paper (sorry, no gold leaf, so one step short of true illumination). During the class we’ll lay out our design, grind pigments, and paint the colors from lightest to darkest, resulting in a beautiful keepsake (unless you’re untalented). The cost is: FREE, but limited to 16 people.  Location is limited to just a few in-person, but more online.    Due to mailing considerations participation is limited to the lower 48 contiguous United States. Please register by Friday, July 31, to allow time for mailing. To register please contact Mark Tillson at: mtillson@hamilton.edu
