After over 20 years of experience serving higher education institutions, Janice Scheutzow is taking on the role as executive director of financial aid at Hamilton. She most recently was director of financial aid at Nazareth College in Rochester, N.Y. Scheutzow has also worked in mortgage financing, but her true passion lies in helping students through the financial aid process. As the fall semester begins to wrap up, we sat down with Scheutzow to learn more about her position and impressions of Hamilton so far.

After an extensive national search, Vice President for Enrollment Management Monica Inzer announced that John T. McLaughlin will join Hamilton as dean of admission and associate vice president , effective Jan. 3.

In “History offers the best argument for continuing affirmative action,” an op-ed co-authored by President David Wippman and Cornell Professor Glenn Altschuler, the writers traced the evolution of affirmative action from the Reconstruction era to today’s Supreme Court hearing.

Hamilton College has joined 32 peer schools in signing an amicus curiae brief with the Supreme Court of the United States in support of Harvard College and the University of North Carolina and the legality of a “race-conscious” admissions process.

“Using students as pawns makes the world less safe for everyone,” wrote Associate Dean of Admission and Director of International Recruitment Anna Wise in “Russian students should not be punished for Putin’s aggression,” her op-ed in the April 21 issue of Times Higher Ed.

The National Labor Relations Board has counted the ballots and a majority of our Admission student workers who voted favored union representation. Hamilton supports the right of workers to choose what they believe is best for them. We recognize that there were strong opinions on both sides of this issue, and we encourage everyone to work together as we move forward. .
