Using skills she learned in a Hamilton first-year career development program, Fabiola (Faby) Alvarez ’22 secured two summer internships: teaching children how to dance and helping Japanese students learn English.

When he was growing up, Drew McArthur ’19 had never traveled outside of the United States. Fast forward to Hamilton, and between his natural affinity for writing code and a semester abroad in Denmark, McArthur realized a new passion. Putting his instinctive technology skills and appetite for travel together, it is fitting that McArthur’s first job will be at TripAdvisor.

“Apply all that you learn in school to the real world” was the advice one panelist gave fellow students at a recent “How I Got My Internship” panel. Four students shared their non-profit internship experiences at the Career Center event. The panel was a great opportunity for underclassmen currently searching for internship opportunities to learn from those who have already gone through the process.

A group of Hamilton upperclassmen gathered on Feb. 11 to discuss their internship experiences as a part of the “How I Got My Internship” panel series. Each member of the four-person group secured their respective internship through different means, and offered their peers helpful advice on how to get through the process.

Karianna Torres ’21 is interning for C-Span’s Department of Education, a branch of the network that is used as a resource for teachers by devising lesson plans and video competitions to get students involved in government affairs.

Over winter break, five Hamilton students had the opportunity to shadow doctors at different stages of their three-year residency in St. Elizabeth Hospital’s Family Medicine Residency program in Utica, NY.

The law firm, Barclay Damon recently announced that Steve Blow ’76, of counsel, has joined the firm. An attorney with nearly 40 years of legal experience, Blow will work out of the firm’s Albany and Syracuse offices.

Two years ago during her summer break, Christine Walsh ’20 interned for Benjamin Blake, mayor of her hometown, Milford, Conn. This past fall semester, after sustaining a concussion prior to the start of classes, she thought she would be stuck at home, recovering and then waiting for the next semester to begin. She had no idea that she would be returning to work with Blake, this time, with her own office. After all – the assistant mayor would need an office.
